Hillsborough County students enjoy a variety of performances presented by local and touring companies and individual artists. Abasi Ote - The Art of Primal Musical Instrument Making
This is a performance/demonstration on the aboriginal Australian didgeridoo and the making of primal music instruments from Africa & the Middle East such as the Outa, Bull Roarer, and Clapper. The presentation includes information on the historical origins of instruments, their relationship to ecology and the cultures they come from.

Alan Darcy & His Fabulous Sax
This artist performs on a variety of saxophones and flute, and sings a cappella. Includes history of the instruments, how they work, and how they relate to other woodwind instruments.

Battersby Duo- "Lefty's Right Foot" and "Dare To Be Writers"
This presentation for Gr. K-2 & Gr. 3-5 will demonstrate to students that creative writing is fun, literacy is cool, and readers maker better writers. It uses music, comedy, poetry and interactive theater as learning tools in a program designed to make literature come alive and improve basic language skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Bits 'N Pieces Puppets- "The Mischievous Adventures of Peter Rabbit"
This 45-minute presentation suitable for Pre-K- Gr. 2 uses glove puppets in a traditional puppet theatre performance, and is sung live. It includes a brief intro to puppetry types and teaches that it is better to be good than bad.

Why Frog and Snake Never Play Together

Offered on a limited basis, this African tale told by tandem storytellers uses large puppets and a full-sized set to raise questions about friendship, prejudice, and preconceived expectations.

Crystal Porter - Everyone Belongs-Latin American Culture
This 45 to 60 minute program uses approximately 30 authentic artifacts to inform students about Central & South American history & culture. It includes a typical song accompanied by a Paraguayan guitar and questions & answer period.

Crystal Porter - Puppetworks
This program includes a demonstration of puppetry as well as covering the “how to” and history of the artform. It also includes audience participation.

Dave Moran - CLAP for Writing
Music program suitable for Gr. K-3, teaches Character, Location & Plot--main components of a short story--using the guitar and stories.

Donna Wissinger - Myths, Legends and Fables and other performances

The flute becomes the voice and the storyteller in this program that brings to life great stories and uses abstract & analytical thinking to explore a variety of myths, legends and fables. Best for maximum of 100 students per session, can do several 30-45 min. sessions per day.

Florida's own global troubadours perform music from the four corners of the globe. Doug Werner and Abasi Ote play instruments that express the richness of such diverse cultures as Northern India, Australia, Ireland and the Middle East.

Jazzschool Duo - A Journey Through Jazz
A hands-on lecture demonstration with the Jazzschool duo of Michael Ross on Jazz bass, and David Pate on Saxophone & flute. Students will get a brief working knowledge of Jazz and Jazz history, and band students (any level) will be invited to participate.

Jose Maria Moreno & Esther Suarez Flamenco Dance & Guitar Performance
Flamenco, the vibrant expression of the Andalusian folk art, comes to life in a showcase of virtuoso guitar playing, dazzling footwork, castanets, and authentic colorful costumes.

Katie Adams- Cracker Cinderella
In this version of Cinderella puppets crafted like old-fashioned dolls, a helpful Tree Fairy Godmother, a gown made with magic moss and nostalgic strains of dulcimer folk music combine to bring a unique flavor of old-time Florida to this beloved rags-to-riches tale.

Popular poet and storyteller Kwabena Dinizulu presents original and traditional stories, some of which are African and African-American folk tales and poems with a focus on morals, the African value system, and the African family/village structure.

Laura Dent, Mother Goose
The Mother Goose series reading show is an interactive show that encourages group participation, while teaching.  The show uses improvisation and fairy tales, targeting rhyming skills as well as critical thinking, sequencing and left-to-right orientation.

Leland Faulkner - Outside the Box
A journey, not only to cultures around the world, but to a world of mime, magic and story. Leland has toured around the world and Outside the Box is full of theatre that is understood no matter what language you speak, or what country you live in. We all have something in common by living on this planet, and Leland’s Faulkner’s World of Wonder Outside the Box brings those things alive in this extraordinary performance.

Mime performance includes audience participation, discussion of non-verbal communication, and the use of gestures.

Moving Current Dance Company
Students will get an insiders view on the making of dances as they choose verbs, adverbs and similes and watch as the dancers choreograph short dances using the chosen words.

Nancy Crockford - Jazz it Up
Music Plus One, solo electric violin with pre-recorded band backing. Performs a variety of musical favorites, including American Jazz, Latin, Brazilian and Bossa Nova standards.

Nery Arevalo - Exploring Word Rhythms
Mr. Arevalo uses a variety of percussion and wind instruments from several cultures, in this highly interactive show that teaches students about the history, geography and native vocabulary of the different countries.

Theater program suitable for Gr. 9-12. Four high school students deal with the fact that one of them has contracted the AIDS virus from an unclean needle.

Presentation weaves violin and mandolin music with storytelling and fun folk tales celebrating Latino and Southeastern U.S. cultures.

Vic Larsen - Professor Larsen's One Man Junkyard Band

A unique introduction to musical instruments using homemade creations constructed from unlikely materials found in the home and yard.

Windell Campbell- Storyteller
Storytelling presentation of the classics, using puppets and action by this master storyteller.

Dr. Tom uses mime, drama, humor, & verbal expression in a performance that highlights good character development, & encourages positive values such as honesty, self-discipline, and kindness. Masque - Animan
Masque/movement theatre utilizes over 20 beautifully crafted human and animal masks to explore attitudes and how they affect our relationships. Environmental themes and historical references are also incorporated.
